Democratic Rep. Bobby Bright (Ala.) on Wednesday ducked a question on whether or not he would vote for Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) by joking that she “might even get sick and die.”

Bright, a centrist Blue Dog who voted against the healthcare reform law, made the comments in response to a question about whether he’d support Pelosi to retain the Speaker’s gavel.

Speaking at a local Chamber of Commerce event, Bright “joked that Pelosi might lose her own election, decide not to run for the speaker’s job or otherwise not be available,” the Montgomery Advertiser wrote.Source: The Montgomery Advisor quoted on this blog

He then suggested “jokingly” that Pelosi could fall ill and die in the coming months, thus preventing him from having to vote for her as Speaker. His remarks reportedly drew laughter from the audience.

Bright’s comments highlight how Democrats running for reelection in red states are distancing themselves from the Speaker, a liberal icon who is unpopular with many voters, according to several polls.

Comment by American Grand Jury:

Wouldn’t that be a break for the patriots! Nancy gets my vote to retire and return to the land of the “fruit-loops.”

I will say this — Pelosi is so eat up with arrogance that she probably could not stand the embarrassment of losing the gavel if the Republicans gain the house — she may retire.

Pithy comment: No such luck I think — this bitch will definitely have to die before we see the last of her.

What about St Nicholas Church?

August 20th, 2010

by Ethel C. Fenig

All of the fine talk from Obama about the rights of people “who cling to their religion” and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg to construct a religious institution in accordance with zoning laws must grate on the priest and members of New York’s St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church.

Formed in 1916 and formerly standing in the shadows of the World Trade Center, the church was totally destroyed when the crumbling towers crashed into it on that tragic September 11. Hobbled by government red tape–finally overcome–and conflicts with the government Port Authority of New York and New Jersey about land for a rebuilt church, negotiations for constructing a new church in the area of its original location, ongoing for nearly nine years, have ended with no resolution. The church remains unbuilt; a rebuilt church remains a dream; members and clergy now worship and conduct their religious and social affairs at a Greek Orthodox church miles away and over a bridge or tunnel in Brooklyn.

As reported on Fox News:

We have people that are saying, why isn’t our church being rebuilt and why is there … such concern for people of the mosque?” Father Alex Karloutsos, assistant to the archbishop, told FoxNews.com. He said “religious freedom” would allow a place of worship for any denomination to be built, but accused officials with the Port Authority of making no effort to help move the congregation’s project along.

“Unfortunately, they have just been silent — dead silent, actually,” said Karloutsos, whose father was ordained at St. Nicholas. “They just simply forgot about the church.”

George Demos, of Greek descent and a Republican candidate for representative from Suffolk County, Long Island, NY, a distant suburban area of New York City, sent a letter to the President, also published in Hellenic News:

[W]e can surely agree that it is an issue of national importance that the only house of worship actually destroyed on September 11, 2001, the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, be rebuilt. For the last year, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has refused to meet with Church officials and has placed bureaucratic roadblocks in way of rebuilding St. Nicholas Church.

The world is watching to see if the humble Church that stood as a quiet refuge at the crossroads of commerce will rise from the ashes of that fateful September morning and become a vibrant symbol of our faith and resiliency as a nation.
Mr. President, please stand up and defend our Judeo-Christian values, express your public and unwavering support for St. Nicholas Church, and ensure that it is rebuilt.

Speaking to about 120 Muslims at a break the daylight fast dinner in the Muslim holy month of Ramadan in the State Dining Room of the White House, Obama invoked the Constitution to explain why he felt Muslims have the right to build an Islamic community center/mosque in an area directly affected by destruction of the World Trade Center caused by their fellow Muslims. Acknowledging that “The 9/11 attacks were a deeply traumatic event for our country. The pain and suffering experienced by those who lost loved ones is unimaginable” he continued:

But let me be clear: as a citizen, and as President, I believe that Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as anyone else in this country. That includes the right to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in lower Manhattan, in accordance with local laws and ordinances. This is America, and our commitment to religious freedom must be unshakeable.

He echoed the sentiments of New York’s Mayor Michael Bloomberg who earlier in the week, speaking at Governors Island with the Statue of Liberty in the background, surrounded by clergy of various faiths, argued:

Whatever you may think of the proposed mosque and community center, lost in the heat of the debate has been a basic question: Should government attempt to deny private citizens the right to build a house of worship on private property based on their particular religion? That may happen in other countries, but we should never allow it to happen here.

If this is applicable for the Muslims why isn’t this also applicable for the St Nicholas Church, a church that predated the September 11 horror? Certainly the president and mayor could use their moral authority with the Port Authority to smooth the path for a new St Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church to be rebuilt in its original neighborhood. After all, it is written in the Constitution.

Comment by American Grand Jury:

Great story — makes a lot of sense, but of course, nothing makes sense in New York City, especially when it comes to cow-towing to the Muslims.

How any sane person could justify a Mosque being built at Ground Zero is beyond me? This Mosque has NOTHING to do with religion — it has everything to do with politics. This Mosque is the Islamic way of saying, “screw you America, we bombed you once, we can do it again — this time we will do it in the form of a monument laughing at your stupidity!”

By Bob Unruh

New poll results from CNN reveal that roughly the same number of Americans support the idea of an Islamic mosque just steps from the Ground Zero site where thousands died in an attack by Muslim radicals in 2001 as believe Barack Obama “probably” or definitely was born in another country.

“If we can call the former group ‘fringe,’ surely we can call the latter group fringe as well,” said Erick Erickson in a commentary on the Redstate.com blog.

“There is no great split in the United States of America on the issue of the Ground Zero mosque,” he continues. “Sixty-eight percent of Americans oppose it.” In fact, using the same metric – CNN Opinion Research polling of 1,000 Americans – more Americans have doubts about Barack Obama’s birth story than support the mosque.

“Consider that for a minute,” Erickson wrote.

In an update, he noted that the percentage of people who think 9/11 was an inside job is equal to the percentage of people who think the Ground Zero mosque is a “good idea.” Various polls have ranged from 26 percent to about 33 percent of Americans who suggest 9/11 was an inside job.

According to CNN, the survey was conducted Aug. 6-10. The results have a margin of error of plus or minus 4.5 percent.

The mosque question was: “As you may know, a group of Muslims in the U.S. plan to build a mosque two blocks from the site in New York City where the World Trade Center used to stand. Do you favor or oppose this plan?”

Twenty-nine percent favored the plan, and 68 percent opposed it.

Asked if Americans thought Barack Obama was born in the US: 11 percent said definitely another country, 16 percent said probably born in another country, 29 percent said probably in the U.S. and 42 percent definitely in the U.S.

The total of those who at least have doubts about Obama’s birth story total 56 percent.

The analysis suggested “therein lies the great problem for the Democrats and why Barack Obama has locked in a Democratic disaster come November.”

Erickson wrote that Democrats no longer can connect with ordinary people on a moral level, losing the ability to address the question “should the mosque be built” after the discussion of “could the mosque be built.”

“Barack Obama siding with the Ground Zero mosque will change that dynamic and it will crush any Democrat hope of mitigating losses in November. The 29 percent of Americans who Barack Obama has decided to line up with are convinced that the 68 percent who oppose the mosque are prejudiced bigots who hate all Muslims,” he wrote.

Comment by American Grand Jury:

Only an idiot running for office or campaigning for another Democrat would open his mouth and side with the Mosque being built near ‘Ground-Zero.’ Of course we all know who that idiot is?

Joseph Farah in a related article talked about the timing of the White House releasing Zero’s passport in an attempt to try and quell the growing eligibility crisis — FAT CHANCE that will happen — he mentioned that many States are considering laws that would force a candidate to prove citizenship and “natural born” status before allowing that candidate to be placed on the ballot — I guess that let’s BO out.

We are winning the eligibility war against Obama — I can see a day where the BIG lie is going to crumble around Obama. We have one thing in our favor: the power of the czars and handlers running the White House is fading fast and the “Zero” that they are trying to protect is not worth protecting. A lot of Democrats and insiders are going to jump ship as the ‘birther’ issue gets hotter and hotter!

Michelle Obama today faced a fresh wave of attacks over her lavish break in Spain with 40 friends, which could easily cost U.S. taxpayers a staggering $100,000 a day.

The First Lady Usurper has been lambasted for her extravagance at a time when the economy is still struggling. One blogger went so far as to brand her a modern-day Marie Antoinette.

And her critics will be further annoyed when they learn that the president’s wife had a Spanish beach closed off today so that she, her daughter and their entourage could go for a swim.

Spanish police cleared off a stretch of beach at the Villa Padierna Hotel in Marbella after the Obamas had finished a busy day of sightseeing.

nice little vacation get-a-way.. wouldn’t you say?

Comment by American Grand Jury:

Many these days are calling the First Lady Usurper (MO) “Marie-Antoinette.”

The French name is attributed to the fact that Marie-Antoinette understood little about the plight of the poor and cared even less. Now, the French nobility say that there is no evidence that Antoinette ever uttered such a phrase. Then why is it being uttered so often now that Michelle Obama is in the limelight? Simple, MO is a gold-digger who may understand the plight of the poor but once obtaining money and power has transformed herself into some kind of “entitlement princess.” It is almost as if “we the poor people” of America owe it to the Obamas to support their lavish life-style and be damned if we should complain.

Have you ever heard the term “I wonder what the poor are doing today?” It is a very disgusting and demeaning term spoken by the elite who think they are better than the rest of us. It is term that anyone saying should immediately ask God for forgiveness. Whenever I see Michelle Obama today I often associate this term with her. This woman truly represents some of the most “selfish” behavior I have witnessed in my life-time. I am embarrassed as a US citizen to even associate this bitch with the title of First Lady. She is far from being a Lady.

That’s Government Motors gratitude for you! From the Wall Street Journal:

U.S. automobile giant General Motors Co. said Tuesday it plans to invest close to $500 million in its Ramos Arizpe plant in northern Mexico to produce a new line of engines as well as a new vehicle…

“We estimate that these technologies allow for a 9% improvement in fuel efficiency from current engines,” Lieblein said, adding that the investment will directly create 390 jobs in Coahuila state, where Ramos Arizpe is located.

Another $215 million will go toward upgrading the factory’s production lines to build a new vehicle for the domestic and international markets, she said, noting that the investment will be key to maintaining 400 jobs.

Assembly of the vehicle, which wasn’t named, is set to begin in the last quarter of 2011. GM plans for it to “give long-term viability to this plant by gradually substituting some production volumes.”

Lieblein said General Motors has invested $4.1 billion in Mexico over the last four years.

US taxpayers bailed out GM, next came the Volt, and now this is the payback.

On the bright side, at least there may be fewer Mexicans crossing the border.

Comment by American Grand Jury:

Cindy.. I beg your pardon, but we have hundreds of thousands of illegals crossing the border.. this money being spent in Mexico is nothing more than “redistribution of wealth.” GM isn’t paying for this, the taxpayer is!

It breaks my heart.. I sold Chevrolet products for many years.. I will never buy another GM product as long as I live.
